Feathered Serpent Labs
Independent Game Studio

1936

A hybrid tabletop-and-digital strategy game, opening in the Spanish Civil War — three years before the Second World War.

Feathered Serpent Labs is an independent game studio. Our flagship project, 1936, is the result of years of design and iteration: a strategy game of territory, economy, and large-scale combat, played across a contested map. Players build their economy, manage production, and commit their moves in secret each turn — every player's orders are then revealed and resolved at once, so an advance is won or lost on anticipation as much as on force.

1936 is built to be played on the table and on screen alike. A companion application carries the bookkeeping a deep strategy game demands — tracking economy and income, unit production timing, private order submission, and combat resolution — so the game stays fast at the table. Standalone mobile and desktop editions bring the complete game into software, with no physical set required.

The game, by surface

Tabletop edition The physical strategy game and its simultaneous-order system.
Companion app Economy, production timing, order submission, and combat resolution for tabletop play.
Mobile & desktop editions The full game in software, playable without a physical set.
Augmented- & virtual-reality editions Augmented-reality companion apps for Meta Quest and Apple Vision Pro that layer animation and interface enhancements over tabletop play, alongside a fully virtual mode that renders the game with no physical pieces at all.
